The Copywriter is responsible for maintaining external communications through writing and editing copy for various print and digital channels. Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Engagement, and in collaboration with the creative communications team, this role plans and executes writing and reporting projects for a variety of news, stories, reports, briefs, and marketing across multiple publishing formats.



Conceive of stories and reports of high interest, quality, and impact.


  • Demonstrate through oral and written communications a deep familiarity with the organization’s values, purpose, goals, stakeholders, activities, and events
  • Articulate core messages to diverse target audiences in diverse publication formats
  • Brainstorm visual and copy ideas for diverse publication formats; stories, reports, and press releases with other members of the creative team
  • Oversee use of creative commons and open licensing for written assets

Research, interview, and craft accurate and engaging stories with the potential for multimedia.


  • Create succinct appealing and engaging written reports and stories
  • Engage in research, interview, and observation for in-depth story writing
  • Develop pristine written text for diverse formats: reports, print publications, longform articles, news articles, promotional materials, and other written documents
  • Liaise with interviewees and other subject matter experts for quote and content checking

Collaborate and advise with respect to various writing and publishing projects.


  • Write according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
  • Develop and share style guides associated with writing and reporting projects
  • Provide support to other team members to ensure that copy for other projects aligns with expectations and organizational style guides
  • Works with communications and IT team to build marketing campaigns as needed
  • Support the development of open textbooks and other related publishing initiatives
  • Proof website, newsletter, and other content, as needed


  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases
  • Ensure that press releases reach appropriate media channels
  • Collaborate in writing and editing board- and ministry-related documents
  • Cultivate media and communications relationships with key stakeholders in liaison with stakeholder relations team

Brand Management

  • Follow direction for the design of the organization’s marketing direction and work to maintain consistency of the eCampusOntario brand and that of all sub brands
  • Ensure that use of branding guidelines align with AODA requirements for appropriate communications projects
  • Ensure eCampusOntario brand identity, expression and personality is optimally reflected in all materials and channels
  • Communicate branding guidelines, including their purpose and value, to stakeholders



Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, and English, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2-3 years of experience in copywriting, researching, interviewing, and reporting
  • Experience with digital tools to facilitate work an asset
